Army shed to be given second life serving Noosa community
29th September, 2015
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss has today announced that a surplus Australian Army shed will be donated for use by the Noosa Men’s Shed.
“I am delighted that the Assistant Minister for Defence, the Hon Darren Chester has approved the donation of an ex-Australian Army Shed sourced from Wallangarra, for use by the Noosa Men’s Shed,” Mr Truss said.
“This is a win-win situation. This shed, which is no longer required by the Army, will now be donated to the Noosa Men’s Shed, allowing them to expand their facilities. Otherwise the shed would have been simply stripped or demolished.
“This way, the Shed will serve the community in a new capacity “ by providing a valuable space for recreation, socialising and the sharing of knowledge and common interests for older men in the Noosa community.”
The donated shed will build on a $6,000 grant to Noosa Men’s Shed, announced by Mr Truss earlier in the year.
Mr Truss congratulated the Noosa Men’s Shed on their resourcefulness in developing the proposal to repurpose the surplus shed.
“This donation is a fitting recognition of the a vital role played by the Noosa Men’s shed, in reducing social isolation and promoting better mental health among retired and older men within the local community,” Mr Truss said.
