Reconstruction works to begin on floodways in Gympie region
25th November, 2015
Reconstruction works have recently commenced to repair flood-damaged roads in the Gympie region, Federal Member for Wide Bay and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss said today. “As a result of Tropical Cyclone Marcia and the South East Queensland trough in February this year, a number of floodways and culverts around Gympie sustained damage,” Mr Truss said.
“Under the Federal Government’s Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements almost $250,000 has been approved for the Gympie Regional Council to carry out these works. Under the arrangements, the Federal Government funds 75% of the project costs with the remainder covered by state and local government.”
Reconstruction works will be undertaken on the following floodways:
• Amamoor Creek Road
• Booinbah Road
• Gardner Road
• Mahon Road
• Marroo Road
• Mooloo Road
• Upper Eel Creek Road
• Upper Widgee Road
• West Coast Road
To ensure the safety of motorists and road workers, reduced speeds, traffic control, detours and signage will be used to direct motorists for the duration of the construction works.
“While efforts are being made to minimize the impact of the road works, motorists may wish to consider adding some extra time to their journey should any delays arise.
“I thank motorists for their patience and cooperation during the construction period,” Mr Truss said.
It is expected that the works will be completed by early 2016.
