Christmas Greetings from Warren Truss
18th December, 2015
Christmas is a very special time of the year when family and friends gather together to celebrate the year that has passed and think of the year ahead.
Christmas has a significance which runs deeper than revelry, social functions and family events. It is more than decorations, lights and gifts. These things are symbols of the true meaning of Christmas that serve to reflect its joyous origins.
The real purpose of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who brought love, salvation and the message of peace and goodwill to all.
Our response to this happy Christmas message is demonstrated through our actions and our willingness to extend a helping hand and offer a caring heart.
In the true spirit of Christmas, it is important that we remember those people in our community who are less fortunate than ourselves - the homeless, the jobless, the sick, and those spending Christmas alone - and consider whether there may be something we can do to help them.
This year we are mindful of the many rural families and communities across our state who continue to face the hardships of drought with great fortitude and courage.
We remember also those who work this Christmas to keep our communities safe and secure – the nurses, doctors and emergency workers who keep our roads open and services running.
We all know that driving over Christmas can be frustrating at times. Please be cautious and courteous. It’s better to take an extra few minutes to arrive, than to risk never arriving at all.
Lyn and I extend our very best wishes for a safe and happy Christmas season and a successful 2016. May everyone enjoy this time of giving and sharing with their loved ones, family and friends.
